You think you’re strong? Strong enough to throw down in an arm wrestling contest?  Well then why not show off your brawn at the “Wrestling for Rock! A Ladies Arm Wrestling Tournament,†a fundraiser for The Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls is a nonprofit organization that builds girls’ self-esteem through music creation and performance. Providing workshops and technical training, they create leadership opportunities, cultivate a supportive community of peers and mentors, and encourage social change and the development of life skills. Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls drum instructor, band coach and event organizer Caley Murray had the idea for this event when she won a ladies arm wrestling competition put on a couple of years ago by In Other Words (IOW). “I had a blast, so when I learned that IOW wouldn’t be putting on another one, I decided to organize one myself," Murray says. "My main goal of this event, besides having a ton of fun and seeing some burly lady-action, is to raise money for camp. Since the bulk of the programming for The Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls happens in the summer, they are often hit hard financially in the winter, so I wanted to help them with that post-holiday donation lull.†The tournament has two weight classes:  Xena (big and bad) and Gabrielle (smaller/ish and bad). Tournament winners will take home a giant, hand-made, steel unicorn trophy, as well as some super-cool Rock Camp Swag. Following the official arm tournament they will open the floor to challenges. During this part of the night, for just $1, you may challenge anyone in the room to arm wrestle at the tournament table. How steamy hot is this gonna get?! If you’re not interested in arm wrestling but still want to win, then you’re in luck because this event will also be holding a raffle with the grand prize being an autographed basketball from the Portland Trailblazers along with many other prizes. And remember, all proceeds from this event go directly to The Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls, an organization that inspires, motivates and encourages girls to be their best. rocknrollcampforgirls1 “I know that if I could’ve gone to a camp like ours, it would’ve made a huge difference to my development and well-being as both a musician and a queer teenager, and that is why I am so passionate about volunteering my time and musical skills with this amazing organization," Murray says. "I don’t want our young girls today to have to experience what I went through as a female trying to learn an instrument that is primarily male-dominated in an un-inclusive environment.†This event will be a night of action-packed arm-wrestling with bulging biceps, tough-lady grunts, and awesome prizes! Special guest DJs DJ SUNSHINE and DJ KIT FISTO will keep the party flowing all night. So come join tons of other hot, strong babes at “Wrestling for Rock†and put your muscles and wallets to use in helping raise money for Portland's Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls. The “Wrestling for Rock†Tournament will be held this Friday, March 1 from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Sloan's Tavern located 36 N Russell St Portland, OR 97227.  21+, $5 cover charge, $5 to enter the tournament.
